What is the meaning of the term HTML?
HTML (short for HyperText Markup Language) is a markup language used in the construction of web pages. HTML documents can be interpreted by browsers. The technology is the result of the junction between the HyTime and SGML standards.
HyTime is a standard for the structured representation of hypermedia and time-based content. A document is seen as a set of competing time-dependent events (such as audio, video, etc.), connected by hyperlinks. The standard is independent of other word processing standards in general.
SGML is a standard for text formatting. It was not developed for hypertext, but it became convenient for turning documents into hyper-objects and for describing links.
